Adolph Briggs, Jr.

U.S. Veteran

Adolph Briggs, Jr. ,38, passed this life Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in Conecuh County, Alabama.

Skeeter as he was affectionately called was born May 26, 1974 to Adolph and Shirley Royster Briggs, Sr. in Mansfield. His lifelong dream was to become a Marine. Therefore upon graduating in 1993 from Mansfield Senior High School he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. serving in the Haitian Conflict and others. He obtained the rank of Sergeant . Sgt. Adolph Jr. was a strong and tough Marine; he served his country to the fullest. He received numerous honors, including; Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and numerous other commendations. He received an honorable discharged and was working to no prevail to receive his military disability. It was difficult for him to accept that the Veteran Administration would not co-operate, support nor respect him as he attempted to establish his disability benefits after he so proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corp.

Skeeter joined the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in his youth and continued to visit when he returned home visit. Upon moving to Andalusia, Alabama he joined First Baptist Church.

He had a passion for cooking and it he joyfully served his family and others with many wonderful meals.

In addition to his parents Skeeter is survived by his 3 daughters: Yasmeen, Ny’Asia , Sha’Kira and their mother Latrice, Mansfield; 2 brothers: Jason Briggs, Columbus, James (Jackie) Royster, Evergreen, Alabama; 1 sister: Ida Widmann of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandmother: Ezzie Royster, Evergreen; 5 aunts, 1 uncle, and a special great aunt and uncle Ester and Ivy Briggs, Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by a brother Christopher Cohee, special loved one, Taylor Atwater, and a special friend, Shawn Wilson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.
