Otis Lee Brooks, Sr.

Otis Lee BROOKS, SR., 64, of 537 Reed St. died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home after a brief illness.

Mr. Brooks was born on Thursday, June 24, 1948 to the late Robert and Mittie A. Long Brooks in Aliceville, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 57 years. Otis was a member of the Community Temple Church Of God In Christ. He retired from AK Steel formerly Empire Detroit Steel Mill in 2002 after 33 years of service. Otis married Rosie Gomez Brooks who survives. His life joys were sitting on the porch enjoying the outdoors and feeding the animals that lived around his home. Otis never met a stranger people were instantly drawn to him and his infectious personality.

Otis is survived by 2 daughters: Shanice and Brianna Brooks, Mansfield; 3 sons: Otis (Sonya) Brooks, Jr., and Wesley J. Brooks, Mansfield, Calvin L. Brooks, Sr., Columbus; his life long partner Pamela Meister, Mansfield; 3 step sons, 23 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Willa Mingle, Villa Rica, Georgia, Queen (JC) Gardner, Valdosta, Georgia; 1 brother: Robert (Gloria) Brooks, Jr., Georgia.

In addition to his parents Otis was also preceded in death by his son Del-Rico Brooks, a step daughter Tyishia James, 2 sisters Pearl Cobb and Mary Thomas, 1 brother James Brooks.

Friends may call Thursday at the New Community Temple C.O.G.I.C. one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service. Elder Henry Bradley will officiate the funeral service.

Family will receive friends at their home daily from 4-8 p.m. until the day of the funeral.
